"Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful." 1 Corinthians 4:2
There was handed a note to R.A. Torrey during one of his trips to preach at a church. The note read "Is there any place where I can find satisfaction for my soul? I have been looking for it everywhere. i have sought it in wealth, but have not found it; I have sought it in society, but have not found it; I have sought it in the pleasures of this world, but have not found it; I have sought it in study, but have not found it; I have sought it in art, but have not found it; I have been seeking it in travel, I have just returned from a tour around the world seeking for satisfaction for my heart, but have not found it. Can you tell me where I can find it?"
To the Christian, Torrey's response is a no brainer and if this be the first time or hundredth time you've heard this you will be delighted by the answer. We spend so much time being found faithful in our studies. So much time in faithfulness to desire, faithfulness to dream, faithfulness to other humans, faithfulness to sin, faithfulness to march, petition, assemble and all the sorts to make our voices heard. But not many are faithful to the Lord. People search for satisfaction in strong drink, some in gambling, some in lust and pleasure, but may I submit to you today, those satisfactions will not last. Hebrews 11:25 says, "Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;"
The difference isn't between pleasure and misery. The difference is between pleasure and pleasure. One lasts for eternity, the other lasts for one life. How long would you like your pleasure to last? God calls us, as becoming Christians, to steward all things He has given to us. When we become new, we understand and realize that ALL things become new. Not just you, but everything you own is brand new (2 Corinthians 5:17) and now no longer belongs to you, but belongs to the creator of all things. We can be faithful to steward what He has given us if we simply put those things back into His hands and say "What would you like me to do with it? What is most pleasing to you?" See, we may not be faithful, but God is always faithful 2 Timothy 2:13 says, "If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself."
Put all you have into the hands of the Lord, and you will have satisfaction for your soul and will have no problem stewarding what He gives you.
