"I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears." Psalms 34:4
It's one thing to fear, but it's another to sit and soak in your fear. D.L. Moody once said, "To fear is to have more faith in your antagonist than in Christ." This statement can't be more true. Fear should not be a leading factor to joy. You may have heard it before "You only live once." This statement is also true, but the statement gives the idea that, because we only live once, we must do everything and anything we can now before it's all gone.
How terrible of a life to live with the thought that you must live it up because of your one life. The driving factor of this statement is fear. Fear of death. Fear of what is to come. Fear of missing out on something here that you didn't know you may enjoy (even if it is sinful or reckless). That is not the type of fear that God desires for His children. In fact, when we trust in Christ, we have no more fear in death. 1 Corinthians 15:55 says, "O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?" This is to state that there is no fear in death. We don't have to worry about our death because the one that controls it is not the grim reaper.
We don't have to worry about Satan chasing us with a scythe ready to kill us off when we are finally close to death. Satan does not control our souls destination, (though he would like to think he does). "Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return to God who gave it." Ecclesiastes 12:7 There is no middle area, and there is no eternal sleep. God made the soul, so He keeps the soul, and it is God who can save the soul if we would but believe. Seek the Lord and He will keep your soul. Don't seek Him in religion, or in the world. Seek Him in His Word alone. He will keep you from fear. "And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice." 1 Kings 19:12
